We have begun working on a non-lending library. Silent Army Archive: a growing collection of material related to, and generated by, the imprint known as Silent Army. This collection resonates with independent comic art making as a community building experience, through collaborative publications, and social pursuits.
Silent Army Reading Room is our public facing extension of working on the archive to display and discuss the possibilities of the project.
The purpose of the archive is to share local history, support research and encourage the artistic pursuit as a fundamental human need. The organised collection currently being archived is made up of printed works from the southern hemisphere ranging between the years 1982-2023. Collected by Michal Fikaris, there has also been donations from other fanatics with roughly 2000 items spread amongst 30 boxes.
In late 2020, Rachael Cilauro and Gwen Gilchrist began a process to create a catalogue of these items and a digital data entry process was created. Gwen, Josh VE and Michal have continued to input the items to an online data base since 2021 with local cultural support.
